MTV Reality Shows

MTV is the original network of the Reality show dating back to the early 90s with “Real World”. The history of this show is interesting in that MTV wanted a scripted show based in New York, but the network wasn’t large enough to afford the production costs. This restriction led them to have a show in which real people lived in an apartment and were filmed as they eliminated the cost of both actors and writers. More than two decades have past since Real World debuted, and there are so many imitators now. Jersey Shore, Road Rules, 16 and Pregnant are all TV shows that document the lives of the people appearing on them.

MTV continues to be one of the networks with the most reality show as it also has “True Life” and “Catfish” which star different people each week. For this reason, it is one of the best networks to apply if you are less than 24 years old. The network as a three star rating for competitive because while some shows like Jersey Shore or Real World are incredibly selective, many of the one hour dramas are some of the easiest on any major network.
