Last Comic Standing – Show Overview

This show premiered in 2000 and has gone through several format changes. Season 9 featured JB Smoove and was produced by Wanda Sykes. The show featured a lot more comic themed weekly challenges with next to no time spent on the contestants living situation. This is a radical departure from earlier seasons in which we’d see the contestants around their home dissing other contestants. Additionally, this season really added a lot of guest stars such as Jay Leno to help build ratings and give visibility to the people on the show.

For aspiring or experienced comics, this is about the best possible show to appear. Even if you only make the initial audition in front of the judges you can book yourself as appearing on Last Comic Standing, and the further you make it the more demand there will be. Contestants like Nikki Carr or Joe Machi could likely fill a comedy club in the country. While Rodman was the sole winner, the reality is that all the finalists will see a huge spike in their careers. Additionally, the top 5 also go on tour across the US which will give them an opportunity to build more connections.

Last Comic Standing Casting Tips

This show does not feature an open casting call or audition like most other reality talent competitions. The show accepts applications through their gmail account, and then cuts the applicants down to 100 people. From there, the 100 people who are on the show will perform multiple rounds of standup comedy until the field has been whittled down to 10 or 12 which are moved to LA for the weekly challenges. We have included two example audition videos.

The video below is a set done by Tammy Pescatelli. She was a finalist on two seasons of the show. This is a great illustration of being likable by a broad audience. She covers some topics that are a bit edgy without going too far so that her sets can easily be aired on NBC.
